If Music Be The Food Of Love

Looking forward to Term 6

I can hardly believe we're nearly at the end of the academic year. Term 5 was definitely the most intense yet, and, unusually for the Stagedoor set up, the term that felt most like "school", because of the two rigorous external assessments the students had to complete. Not quite exams, but certainly with as much [...]

Milestone Logs & MainStage Performance

We've had another busy week at Stagedoor Learning. Our main focus for the week was the devised performances students have created for Unit 3 of their BTEC, which is the Group Performance Workshop unit. Students have had to devise an original piece based on a Salvador Dali painting, and have created clever, sophisticated performances which [...]

We’re back – term 5 is in session.

It was lovely to see everyone back after the Easter break. Term 5 is going to be very busy for a few weeks, and then we'll be able to relax a little and enjoy the rest of the summer term. Sometimes, it's easy to forget that we're doing a course equivalent to 3 A Levels, [...]

Spring term – over and out.

The highlight of this week was Pilot Theatre's production of Brighton Rock at The Everyman. We were treated to a workshop with assistant director Oli O'Shea, who later tweeted "Sharing rehearsal approaches and exercises today with brilliant BTEC students @Everymanchelt before they watch the matinee of #BrightonRock". The group then watched the play, which student [...]

Stagedoor on Tour!

The highlight of this week was taking our National Theatre Connections play The Changing Room on tour! As part of the NT Connections project, each group gets to transfer its play to a different venue - regional theatres which host their own mini Connections festivals. We were partnered with The Egg, which is part of [...]

The Changing Room – Performance success

The absolute highlight of this week was performing The Changing Room in the Everyman Studio on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Having performed on a much wider stage at Henley Bank last week, it was fun adapting the piece for the more intimate space in the studio, but the play itself is perfect for a smaller [...]

Term 4 – Hitting the ground running!

Term 4 began this week, marking the half way point for the Stagedoor Year 12 students. We certainly hit the ground running! On Tuesday, we went to see Birdsong at the Everyman, and it went straight to the top of the League of Productions. Birdsong is a heartbreaking story, set during World War 1, following [...]

End of Term 3 – It’s been a busy one!

The end of Term 3 seemed to come round very suddenly, and we have packed an awful lot into what has been quite a short term. Highlights have included Flashdance, Private Lives, The Play that Goes Wrong, workshops with professionals, including our amazing singing tutor Ria Keen, physical theatre practitioner Josh Patel and Flashdance cast [...]
